Ben Hallman

I'm the deputy editor at The Trace, a nonprofit news organization covering gun violence in America. I was previously investigations and special projects editor at HuffPost, where I reported on fraud and patient abuse in the booming for-profit hospice industry; the unregulated army of bank contractors hired to clean up after the foreclosure crisis; and conducted a deep dive into forced evictions financed by the World Bank with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, a project that won or was a finalist for more than a dozen major national journalism awards, including the 2015 Al Neuharth Innovation in Investigative Journalism prize from the Online News Association and the 2016 Gold Keyboard Award from the New York Press Club. Recognition for other work includes the 2015 Education Writers of America award for data journalism; a 2014 Barlett-Steele bronze prize for investigative reporting; and a 2012 Society of Business Editors & Writers Best in Business award.
