Simon Davis-Cohen

Simon Davis-Cohen

Simon Davis-Cohen is the founder of readthedirt.org, an editorial fund for organizers and emerging journalists. He is also a writer: his interests include the national crackdown on municipal governments, the integrity of the ballot initiative process, the conservative movement to call a national constitutional ‘convention of states’ and Homeland Security’s targeting of U.S. citizens. His work has appeared in places like Harper’s, Los Angeles Review of Books, In These Times, Common Dreams, Truthout, Fusion, the Leap, City Limits, Earth Island Journal, The Nation, and other outlets. He is now working on a book about municipal governments in the US and a documentary about the largest gang raid in NYC history, in addition to pursuing his work at readthedirt.org. Before he became a journalist, he was taught to farm by Michoacáno farmers in the fields of Growing Washington, the state's most diversified commercial farm. He is descended from Iraqi-Jewish political activists on one side, and a commanding officer of the British Honourable Artillery Company and a nurse on the other. He was born and raised in Northeast Portland, Oregon and today mainly lives in New York. He can be reached at s.davis.cohen@protonmail.com and followed @SimonDavisCohen. Last updated July 2017
